'Lady of Shallot' Scuplture Donation Feedback Opportunity
Residents of Wellesley Township, we want to hear from you!
Timothy Schmalz, a sculptor from St Jacob’s, Ontario approached the Township offering to donate a sculpture that he would like to see placed at Albert Erb Park in Wellesley to honour the memory of his father who grew up in Wellesley. Many of Mr. Schmalz’s sculptures are installed in key places around Canada and the world.
The sculpture Mr. Schmalz has offered to donate is titled “Lady of Shallot” and is based on the poem of the same name written in 1832 by poet Alfred Tennyson. Mr. Schmalz will cover all costs associated with placing the sculpture in the park. Township staff would look after maintenance of the area after installation.
The full report can be found attached to this notice. If you have any comments or concerns regarding the donation of the sculpture, please let us know. Reach out to your local Councillor, or the Township Clerk, Grace Kosch, gkosch@wellesley.ca with any feedback. Council is expected to make their final decision on the sculpture donation on February 11, 2025 after considering any input received.
