Township of Wellesley Awards Contract for New Recreation Centre
CROSSHILL, ON - December 15, 2021 - Township of Wellesley Council voted at their meeting Tuesday, December 14th, 2021, to accept a bid from Ball Construction for the construction of the much-anticipated new recreation facility.
Council approved negotiating a contract for the development of the WELLESLEY TOWNSHIP RECREATION CENTRE for a maximum amount of $27,200,000.
The contract includes a single pad ice rink, walking track, 8 dressing rooms (including 2 fully accessible rooms), Junior “C” dressing room, storage for community groups, a youth centre, senior centre, gymnasium that would service as a community centre as well, commercial kitchen, skate park, multi-use court, active outdoor play centre, meeting rooms, fitness rooms, 2 soccer fields and an outdoor walking trail.
Mayor Joe Nowak states, “This world-class facility is the next step in building spaces for our community to connect, grow and gather and will complement the existing recreation facilities throughout the Township.”
The procurement process included the receipt of four of proposals with Ball Construction ultimately being chosen as a result of having the highest score. Categories that were used for scoring were aesthetics, building flow, ease of maintenance, meeting requirements of RFP, energy efficiencies, and cost.
“Awarding this contract means we can get shovels in the ground in just a few months, and make this dream a reality,” shares Chris Martin, Wellesley Township Recreation Centre Advisory Committee Chair.
