Clerk's Department
The Clerk's Department is responsible for fulfilling the statutory duties of the Clerk as defined by the Municipal Act, other provincial legislation and associated Township By-laws.
The Department, through its various functions is responsible for providing support to residents, visitors, Council and staff. At the Township of Wellesley, there are three main areas of responsibility in the Clerk's Department:
Council and Clerk's Services
Council and Administrative Services staff keep the public and other members of staff informed of Council decisions, direction and strategy. Council and Clerk's Services is responsible for the following:
- Registering delegations to appear before Council;
- Providing information and service to the public, Council, Township departments, outside agencies, businesses, media, provincial and federal governments on matters relating to municipal government;
- Informing interested parties of Township Council's actions;
- Ensuring notice requirements under various legislation are met;
- Provision of secretariat functions to the Mayor and Council, including Advisory Committees;
- Municipal lottery licensing;
- Establishing corporate agreements, by-laws and related documentation;
- Retention of corporate records;
- conducting civil marriage ceremonies;
- Receiving petitions for municipal drains and administering the legal procedures of the Drainage Act;
- Returning Officer for the Municipal Election;
- Accessibility Coordinator for the Township;
- Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator; and
- By virtue of Office, the Clerk and Deputy Clerk are Commissioners of Oath.
The Clerk, in addition to all statutory functions, is also a Division Registrar for the Office of the Registrar General of the Province of Ontario and is responsible for the registration and recording of deaths occuring in Wellesley Township and the issuing of marriage licences.
By-law Enforcement and Animal Control Services
The By-law Enforcement and Animal Control Officer deals with the enforcement and interpretation of a number of Township By-laws relating to animal control, parking enforcement, noise, signs and property standards.
Information Technology (IT) Services
The Information Technology (IT) Technician oversees the Township of Wellesley's information systems and networks to ensure an accurate, reliable and secure ability to communicate with internal staff and external customers and residents effectively.
