Energy Conservations and Demand Management Plan

The Energy Conservation Demand Management Plan will:

  • Reduce our energy consumption from all facilities and streetlights
  • Maximize the use of fiscal resources and avoid cost increases through direct and indirect energy savings
  • Reduce the environmental impact of the our operations
  • Increase the comfort and safety of staff and patrons of our facilities
  • Create a culture of conservation within the municipality
  • Improve the reliability of our equipment and reduce maintenance.

The Township of Wellesley is reducing our total energy consumption and associated greenhouse gases (GHGs) through wise and efficient use of energy and resources, while having an efficient and effective level of service for our residents.

The Ontario Regulation 507/18, Electricity Act

The Electricity Act is necessary to accomplish the following three important goals:

  • Generate renewable energy such as wind, solar, hydroelectricity and bioenergy
  • Promote energy savings by working with local utilities and making energy efficiency part of the Ontario building code
  • Create clean energy jobs

Ontario Regulation 507/18 was established to help public agencies better understand their energy usage, develop conservation plans to guide energy savings and demonstrate government leadership in conservation.

Energy consumption reporting

Ontario Regulation 507/18 requires certain public agencies to report on their energy consumption and GHG emissions annually and develop a five-year energy conservation and demand management plan.

An annual progress report is presented to council and the plan is reviewed and updated every five years.
