Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC) is recruiting new members

The Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC) is currently recruiting new members from across the region who have lived experience, or experience and knowledge in the field of disability.

Ontario municipalities with populations of 10,000 or more are required to have accessibility advisory committees. At least 50% of members are to be persons with disabilities. This ensures that the people most affected by accessibility barriers in the community are involved in addressing those barriers.  

GRAAC is a cross-disability municipal advisory committee, comprised of 11 to 15 members, that gives advice to the councils of the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, the Region of Waterloo, and the townships of Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich, and North Dumfries.

GRAAC helps the participating municipalities fulfill the purpose of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act by providing vision and advice regarding the identification, removal, and prevention of barriers (physical, architectural, technological, informational, communicational, attitudinal and policy/practice). 

Applications are now open to fill vacancies for the City of Waterloo, Townships of Wellesley, Wilmot, and North Dumfries. Applications will close on October 21, 2024.
