Notice of Adoption - Township of Wellesley Official Plan

TAKE NOTICE
This Notice of Adoption of the new Township of Wellesley Official Plan (“the Official Plan”) is issued pursuant to Section 17 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P. 13 (“Planning Act”).

On July 20th, 2026, the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Wellesley adopted the Official Plan by By-law 25/2026, in accordance with Section 17 of the Planning Act. The Official Plan was prepared pursuant to Section 26 of the Planning Act to comprehensively apply provincial land use and planning policies while also addressing local priorities.

Pursuant to Section 17 of the Planning Act, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is the approval authority for the Official Plan adopted by Council. Once the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing approves the Official Plan, it will come into force and effect and will replace the existing Region of Waterloo and Township of Wellesley Official Plans.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT
The purpose and effect of the adopted Official Plan is to establish a comprehensive policy framework to guide land use planning, growth, and development within the Township of Wellesley to the year 2051. The Official Plan expresses the Township's long-term vision and objectives for building complete, sustainable, and resilient communities while providing direction for future land use, infrastructure, and community development.

The Official Plan provides policy direction for matters including growth management, housing supply and affordability, employment and commercial development, infrastructure and servicing, transportation and active transportation, parks and recreation, environmental protection, cultural heritage conservation, and the continued protection of the Township's agricultural land base. The Official Plan applies to all lands within the Township of Wellesley.

WRITTEN AND ORAL SUBMISSIONS
All statutory written and oral submissions regarding the Official Plan have been considered, and where appropriate, their recommendations have been incorporated into the Plan. RIGHT TO APPEAL
The decision of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Wellesley to adopt the Township of Wellesley Official Plan is not subject to appeal.

APPROVAL AUTHORITY DECISION
In accordance with Section 17 of the Planning Act, the Official Plan adopted by the Council of the Township of Wellesley will be forwarded to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the approval authority, for review and decision.
