Township of Wellesley 2026 Draft Budget Tentatively Approved

After careful consideration, discussion and constructive debate, Council has tentatively approved the 2026 draft budget with a tax levy impact of 3.49% after growth. The final 2026 budget will be presented at a public meeting held during the regular Council meeting on January 13th, 2026, at 6:45 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Council Chambers located at 4805 William Hastings Line.

The 2026 draft budget prioritizes the long-term sustainability of our Township. Council is committed to investing in the essential infrastructure—our roads, bridges, facilities, and parks— that makes our Township a vibrant place to live. Guided by the Asset Management Plan, which was adopted in 2025, this draft budget ensures we proactively set aside funds to maintain and replace assets before they fall into disrepair. While this sustainable approach accounts for much of the 2026 levy increase, it is a necessary and responsible investment in the long-term health and safety of our community.

The 3.49% tax levy impact will increase the Township’s portion of the average home’s tax bill by $42.83 annually. Quick Facts:

• The Township administers tax bills sent to residents which include tax levies collected for the Township of Wellesley, Region of Waterloo, and School Boards (Education Tax).
• The breakdown of these levies is approximately as follows:
  • Township of Wellesley- 31%
  • Region of Waterloo- 56%
  • School Board- 13% 
• The Township of Wellesley’s levy increase applies to the Township levy only. Regional levy increases are not included in the Township’s draft budget.

The Township of Wellesley is committed to providing exceptional service to the residents of the municipality in a fiscally responsible manner. Budget discussions in relation to the 2026 draft budget were held over the course of three days, at advertised meetings open to the public, at the Township of Wellesley Council Chambers in Crosshill, ON, on November 27, December 4 and 18, 2025.
