Township of Wellesley to Celebrate 175 Years in 2027
September 8, 2026, Crosshill, ON – In 2027, the Township of Wellesley will celebrate its 175th anniversary with a year-long series of events celebrating the people, places, and traditions that have shaped the community since its founding in 1852.
The anniversary celebration will honour the Township's rich agricultural heritage, vibrant rural character, strong sense of community, and the generations of residents who have contributed to Wellesley's growth and success.
As we celebrate 175 years, we have an opportunity to reflect on our past, recognize the people who built this community, and look ahead to an exciting future," said Mayor Joe Nowak. "This milestone belongs to everyone who calls the Township of Wellesley home, and we look forward to bringing residents, families, businesses, and visitors together throughout the year."
Two signature events will anchor the anniversary celebrations:
Orchard Music Festival
August 13-14, 2027 - Township of Wellesley Recreation Complex
The Orchard Music Festival will be presented by the Township of Wellesley in collaboration with Spottydawg Productions, the team behind the popular Hayloft Music Festival in North Perth and Tailgate Music Festival in West Perth.
The festival will transform the Township of Wellesley Recreation Complex into a vibrant outdoor entertainment destination for a celebration of music, community, and summer fun. Featuring a lineup of popular artists, food vendors, and more, the festival is expected to attract thousands of residents and visitors from across the region and beyond.
Hockey Showcase Weekend
October 2-3, 2027 - Bill Gies Recreation Centre
Hockey fans will have the opportunity to celebrate local talent and community spirit during the Hockey Showcase Weekend. The event will feature local players and teams and will be highlighted by a special Maple Leafs Alumni Game, bringing an exciting piece of hockey history to the Township.
Community Grant Program
To encourage broad community participation, the Township will offer a special 175th Anniversary Community Grant Program to support residents, community groups, organizations, and volunteers interested in hosting events and activities as part of the celebration. The program embraces a grassroots approach, empowering community members to share their ideas, showcase local traditions, and create opportunities that reflect the unique character, history, and spirit of the Township of Wellesley. By supporting locally driven initiatives, the Township hopes to ensure that the 175th anniversary is celebrated not only through major signature events, but through meaningful community-led experiences across all corners of the municipality.
From its agricultural roots and thriving rural economy to its strong volunteer spirit and close-knit communities, the Township of Wellesley has remained a place where people come together to support one another and build a high quality of life.
