The Township of Wellesley Fire and Rescue Services invites interest Township of Wellesley residents who are 18 years or older and can meet minimum fitness, medical and administrative requirements to apply for the position of Volunteer Firefighter.

Applications and Recruitment

Applications are available on our website or at the Township m Administration Office. Applications are accepted year-round but interviews and onboarding are conducted during recruitment campaigns only

Resume and Skills

Valuable resume skills and/or highlights include, but are not limited to:

  • Shift workers with daytime availability
  • Residing in close proximity to one of the three fire stations (Linwood, St. Clements and Wellesley)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Applicants already employed in the emergency services field (Firefighters, Paramedics, Police Officers)
  • Previous paid-on-call firefighting experience
  • Students enrolled in or recent graduates of firefighting, paramedic or any medical-related diplomas/degrees
  • Registered medical professionals (doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, registered practical nurses, mid-wives)
  • Mechanics, plumbers, gas fitters, millwrights, electricians, HVAC technicians
  • Construction, farming, heavy machinery operators, military, truck driving experience
  • Employed within the Township boundaries and able to leave work to respond to calls

Becoming a Firefighter

  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain (at their own expense) a DZ license within the first 12 months.
  • Satisfactorily completion of a rigorous training program that is time consuming and physically and mentally exhausting.
  • All recruits are required to have 100% attendance in our intense six-month Joint Recruit Training program.  Mandatory satisfactory written and skills testing to obtain the NFPA Firefighter Level 1 and 2 Certifications.

Recruit Wages

Year One: Probationary Firefighters at 60% of the Firefighter wage.
Year Two: 2nd Class Firefighter at 75% of the Firefighter wage.
Year Three: Having successfully met all training, performance and attendance requirements recruits become a 1st Class Firefighter.

Regardless of rank or years of service, all firefighters are expected to attend a minimum of 20 training nights a year.
